The Norwalk Hour

State Rep. candidate Stephanie Thomas proposes solutions

-

By the time I moved to Norwalk nearly three years ago, the ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans — from grassroots to national initiatives — was so wide that I was inspired to active participation in the Democratic Party to help form and promote its platform. Grassroots initiatives start with us, which is why my choice for 143

District state Representative is Democratic candidate Stephanie Thomas.

In a world of depleting natural resources, she recognizes the benefits of improved public transportation, clean renewable energy, and reduced fossil fuel dependency. She supports federal financial stimulus to offset the impacts of the pandemic. She wishes to expand state gun-safety laws, public school curricula and equitable cost-sharing measures between school districts.

As a taxpayer, I support the effective allotment of government funds that invest in our greatest future resources: our children and grandchildren. The solutions that Ms. Thomas proposes will secure a high return for those most precious resources.

Automatic voter registration, expanded access to absentee ballots, early voting, and vote-by-mail are all means to ensure our voices are heard. Democracy is still the best arena in which opposing positions may be debated and resolved by a fair majority vote.

My message to your readership is to vote your hearts and minds. My vote will always be for selfless candidates with broad perspectives who put the larger community before themselves, so I am voting for Stephanie Thomas. Jan Degenshein Norwalk
