Lee signs with ECHL’s Fuel

-

The Indy Fuel of the ECHL announced Tuesday that they have signed former Sacred Heart men’s hockey defenseman Mike Lee to a contract for the upcoming season. Lee, 24, of Hamden, had been on a tryout with the Fuel, who begin play Friday at home against Kansas City. He was a second-team All-American for the Pioneers last year after scoring 33 points in 33 games in the pandemic-shortened season.

VOTE-GETTERS

The Quinnipiac women’s hockey again received votes in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey polls this week. The Bobcats, whose first games are set for Sunday and Monday, were one of four teams outside the top 10 receiving votes in the USCHO poll and one of three in the other poll.

MATCHING UP

Former Sacred Heart

men’s soccer goalkeeper Matthew Weston has raised nearly $3,000 as of Tuesday night for Be the Match, the registry for the National Marrow Donor Program. Weston, the director of rehabilitation for the Portland Timbers of MLS and Portland Thorns of the NWSL, is running the fundraiser on bethematchfoundation.org through the MLS Cup on Saturday. He has been growing his

hair for Locks of Love, and he plans to shave it after the “Shave to Save” fundraiser is finished. A post on the Pioneers’ website says Weston’s inspiration came as an assistant coach at Eastern Connecticut State University: One of the players, Jon DeCasanova, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, and Be the Match helped him receive a bone marrow transplant.
