EDITH EFTHEMIA PETROPOULOS SCHINELL

-

The family of Edith Petropoulos Schinell announces with great sadness the death their beloved mother on Dec 4, 2020 at age 98.

Raised in Norwalk, Edith graduated Norwalk High School in 1940. She married John Schinell in 1941. They had over 74 years of happy and devoted marriage. Edith is survived by her daughter, Maria Nilson; and her son, Chris Michael Schinell and his wife Birgit; as well as her grandsons Carl Nilson; John Nilson and wife Michele and their daughter Hanah; Todd Schinell; Evan Schinell and his wife Melissa and their newborn son Aaron; her sister Bertha Jones and her husband William. She was predeceased by her husband John; her parents Christos and Stella Petropoulos; her three brothers Michael, John and Constantine; her son-in-law Peter Nilson and granddaughter Kristine Nilson.

While raising her children, Edith worked at the Norwalk Hospital, Loehmann’s, and as a seamstress. She was an active member of the Stamford Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels and the Daughters of Penelope.

Edith enjoyed running her own business by selling wigs and cosmetics. She was very artistic, an avid hobbyist in ceramics, painting, and needlework. She was a member of the Darien Quilter’s Group.

Edith was a wonderful and loving wife, a most loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her family and brought the family and friends together as often as possible for holidays and pool parties at her home in Norwalk. We will always remember and will miss the cookouts where Mom served her shish-kabab and especially her father’s (Papou’s) amazing Texas Lunch chili dogs.

Edith will be remembered as a selfless and genuinely caring person. She was always available for her family and did not hesitate to help others when needed.

A private burial, arranged by Collins Funeral Home, was held at Riverside Cemetery with immediate family and Fr. Harry Pappas officiating. A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at the church at a later date.
