Destroying Colonial Village playground wrong move
Are the people on Norwalk’s Zoning Commission “for real?” This group recently voted and approved the total destruction of the 7-acre longtime ballfield/playground (formerly a city park) at Colonial Village Housing Complex to make way for even more housing units in this already very densely populated, high trafficked and extremely congested area.
Even after repeatedly being advised that it was really the only remaining “green space” in this area of town. Yet recently it seems this same group debated the plan to sell a small (and I do mean small) sliver of property on the corner across from Colonial Village. The Hour quoted one of the commissioners recommendation to “keep it green” and that “As a city, we are losing trees every single day, and I think it just would be a tragedy to lose any more green space.” Seriously! Maybe the many (150-plus) “high risk” children from Colonial Village will be able to sit under the three trees on that sliver of property and have an exhausting game of Tiddly Winks to work out/off their energy and boredom as their only real open space is being destroyed, with the zoning groups’ blessing.
As a longtime resident of Norwalk, I certainly feel that our quality of life elements here have only continued to decline — and rapidly. And to add insult to injury, our taxes just continue to rise. I can only contribute that to our current city administrations policies and their appointees. Move over Bridgeport — here comes Norwalk.
