Warrant: Norwalk man sexually assaulted girl for years

A city man accused of sexually assaulting a 14year-old girl is facing more charges after an investigation revealed years of abuse, according to an arrest warrant.

Joan Chacua-Diaz, a 27year-old also known as Michael Chacua, has been charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

The new charges come nearly a month after Chacua-Diaz was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child for sexually assaulting the girl, police said.

The victim’s mother found Chacua-Diaz sexually assaulting her daughter in October, police said.

After his arrest in November, police said they continued to investigate and discovered Chacua-Diaz had been sexually assaulting the girl since she was 11.

Attorney Mark Sherman, who represents ChacuaDiaz, declined to comment on case specifics, but said his client adamantly denies these new allegations.

In text messages obtained by police, Chacua-Diaz’s father pleaded with the victim’s father to not report the incidents to police, according to an arrest warrant.

“I would like to apologize on behalf of my son. (T)ell me what I can do to find a solution. I’m with you and understand the situation but please don’t go to the police,” he wrote, according to the warrant.

Chacua-Diaz was released this week after posting $175,000 bond.

Chacua-Diaz was required to turn over his passport and is prohibited from contacting the victim or her family.

No pleas were made in the case and he is due back in court on Feb. 9.
