NORWALK — Jacqueline Tenore said she has always been competitive, and when she found out her son was likely to be the first baby born at Stamford Hospital in the new year, she forced herself to hold out for midnight.

“I asked, ‘Who else is in the back?’ and she (the nurse) said they have a while to go and I was like, ‘I got this,’ ” Tenore said.

Jacqueline, 33, gave birth to Anthony Tenore IV at 12:11 a.m. on Jan. 1. The baby is named after his father and Jacqueline’s 32-year-old husband, Anthony Tenore III, and is the younger brother to the couple’s first child, 18-month-old Anastasia Josephine.

The Norwalk couple owns a masonry business in town, AT3Stoneworks. Should the new addition decide to join the masonry industry, which has been in the family for generations, the company may need to consider a name change to AT4, Jacqueline joked.

Anthony IV’s due date was originally Christmas Day, but Jacqueline did not go into labor until 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. And just past midnight, the baby was born, she said.

During the delivery of the couple’s first child, Jacqueline’s husband, mother and mother-in-law

present, but due to the coronavirus pandemic precautions, she said visitors were limited to just her husband.

“I had a full audience last time,” she said. “This time was more intimate. It was nice even with their personnel. My husband and I got to be present with our child more.”

Upon admittance to the hospital Thursday night, Jacqueline received a rapid COVID-19 test and once the result came back negative, was allowed to remove her mask, she said.

For the first night, Anthony III stayed overnight in the hospital with Jacqueline, while her mother watched Anasatsia. During the second night of the stay, her husband went home, leaving Jacqueline and the newborn at the hospital.

Along with limited guests, Jacqueline was not allowed to leave her room. This was much different from her first delivery experience, when she said she roamed the halls during labor, doing squats up and down the halls to ease the tension.

“I have been very fortunate to have been allowed to have my husband in with me, as some people couldn’t during tighter restrictions,” she said. “But, the health care workers have done a phenomenal job. They did last time, but they really went above and beyond.”
