Norwalk surpasses 8,000 coronavirus cases
Norwalk has surpassed 8,000 total coronavirus cases.
Over the weekend, there were 147 new COVID-19 cases reported, bringing the total number of citywide cases confirmed since March 2020 to 8,048.
There was also one new death reported on Friday. A total of 194 Norwalk residents have now died of the virus.
Norwalk saw a peak in COVID-19 cases during the first week of January when 580 tested positive for the virus, but cases have seen a decline since then, with 419 cases reported the second week of January.
The Norwalk Health Department continues to track the daily positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people on a sevenand 14-day average in Norwalk to allow for standard comparision between communities. From Jan. 10-16, there were 67.1 daily cases per 100,000 people. From Jan. 3 to Jan. 16, there were 80.1 daily cases per 100,000 people. The test positivity rate from Jan. 3-16 was 10.1 percent.
