New Canaan releases vaccination options
NEW CANAAN — Vaccinations will continue at New Canaan’s Lapham Center three days a week moving forward.
Following Gov. Ned Lamont’s announcement last Monday, residents 55 and up and school staff, teachers and child care providers are now eligible to register to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“However, the state Department of Public Health has directed our New Canaan Health Department to hold a closed clinic for the educators and staff of all our New Canaan public schools, private schools, nursery schools and day care centers,” the town said in a statement March 1. “This initiative by DPH is to control the flow of staff from these institutions and not overrun the VAMS system, which will allow for the general public aged 55 and up to register through VAMS https:// dphsubmissions.ct.gov/ OnlineVaccine.”
New Canaan is not allowing walk-ins at this time.
The release noted that this will not affect second dose appointments in New Canaan.
“If you were vaccinated with your first dose at Lapham Center with our Health Department, you are guaranteed to have your 2nd dose done there as well,” the town said.
The town also acknowledged that residents who are eligible may try to register with one of the pharmacies on the state’s COVID-19 vaccine pharmacy list that is posted on www.newcanaan.info or for vaccination appointments at Stamford Hospital at its Bennett Medical Center Campus.
“There are an estimated 600,000 people eligible in this next phase, so patience will be needed when trying to schedule an appointment for vaccination,” the release said. “The demand for vaccines continues to far exceed supply and the hope is that with increased supply in the coming weeks more appointments will become available.”
