KEEP AN EYE ON

Mamu, Mamu: UConn will once again have its hands full with versatile, 6-foot-11 forward Sandro Mamukelashvili, a likely first-team all-Big East pick who ranks second in the league in scoring (17.8 ppg), eighth in rebounding (7.1) and 14th in assists (3.1). The Huskies, lead by the defensive play of Isaiah Whaley, did a decent job on “Mamu” in the first half of their Feb. 6 meeting at Gampel Pavilion. But Whaley hit some foul trouble and Mamu lived at the foul line in the second half, finishing with 22 points (10-for-12 from the line) and leading the Pirates to an 80-73 win. He is currently 33 points short of tying Dan Hurley on the program’s all-time scoring list, and the Huskies certainly don’t want to see him pass their head coach on Wednesday night.

No Joshin’ around: Senior center Josh Carlton, who turned his ankle late in Saturday’s win over Marquette, was “limited” in practice on Tuesday and will be a game-time decision, per Hurley.

History lesson: UConn boasts a 45-19 all-time advantage over Seton Hall, its fellow charter Big East member. Hurley played at the Hall from 1991-96, scoring 1,070 career points, and currently ranks ninth on the school’s all-time assists list with 437. He is 1-2 against his alma mater as a head coach, splitting a pair of games while coaching Rhode Island and losing the most recent matchup, on Feb. 6 at Gampel Pavilion.
