ABOUT THE MATCHUP: Because of the pandemic, the title game is on campus for the first time, and Quinnipiac, champion of the four-team regular season and ranked 10th in both polls, gets the honor of hosting. Other honors for the Bobcats this season include two of the 10 Hobey Baker Award finalists: Sr. F Odeen Tufto (6-3844, second in the nation in scoring, first in assists) was named ECAC Player of the Year on Friday, the program’s second (G

Eric Hartzell, 2013); and Sr. G Keith Petruzzelli (1.78 GAA, .929 save percentage; Ken Dryden ECAC Goalie of the Year). Quinnipiac has not played since a split with Colgate on March 5-6. It’s seeking its second Whitelaw Cup as ECAC tournament champion (2016). St. Lawrence beat Colgate 5-4 in a back-and-forth semifinal on Thursday. Sophomore forward Cameron Buhl, the Saints’ leading scorer (5-10-15), scored the game-winner 8:07 into overtime. Before Thursday, the Saints had last played Feb. 26-27 at Quinnipiac, a pair of Bobcats wins, 4-2 and 3-2. They resumed practice on Sunday after a COVID-19 pause. This is St. Lawrence’s first appearance in an ECAC final since 2001, when Quinnipiac was still in the old MAAC.

UP NEXT: Automatic NCAA Tournament berth for the victor; hoping for an at-large bid for the loser.
