John Dunsmore was born to run. He ran happily into his next life. His soul left his body on December 4, 2021 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He was 62 years old.

John was born on January 5, 1959 in Montreal, QC. He grew up playing hockey, football and soccer and took pride in being the eldest of six siblings. He attended Loyola High School in the 1970s, when he immersed himself in rock music and listened to his favorite Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen records on repeat. He studied business at McGill University with his wife and best friend of 38 years, Linda. John became affectionately known as “Johnny Orr” while coaching his friends on The Chiefs, a legendary adult hockey team.

John moved to Norwalk, CT in 1994 and made an impact on the community. He coached youth soccer for 15 years for his childrens’ teams known as the Norwalk Cougars, Norwalk Falcons and the Norwalk High School JV team.

John owned and managed multiple businesses in Fairfield County. He was a natural leader and gifted teacher. He has an incredibly bright spirit. He fills every room with his positive energy and compassion. He is known for his creativity, originality and quick wit. He will be remembered for his affinity for Adidas and Mick Jagger dance moves.

John was a loving father who cherished his three children, Leanna, Jake and Nicole. He was raised by his parents, Jack and Patricia Dunsmore. He inspired the love of rock n’ roll in his siblings, Cynthia, Robert, Peter, Richard and Jackie. He leaves a legacy behind for his nieces and nephews.

“Together, we can live with the sadness. I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul. Someday we’re gonna get to that place where we really want to go, and we’ll walk in the sun. Baby, we were born to run.”

To honor John’s memory, please consider donating to Circle of Care in Wilton, CT for children with cancer, a cause very close to his heart.

Please join us to celebrate John on Saturday, December 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Washington Prime in Norwalk, CT.
