Rosemarie Lucia Caputo
Rosemarie Lucia Caputo, 84, died peacefully in Cumming, Georgia on Saturday, December 4, 2021. She was born in Stamford, CT, the eighth of nine children, to Maria (Guglielmo) and Domenic Lucia on March 25, 1937.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her siblings: Lucy, Margaret, Nettie Donato, Salvatore, Canio, Daniel, and Angelo. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank E. Caputo, sister Catherine L. Gredoni of New Canaan, CT, four children and their spouses: Catherine LuciaDurante (Chris) of Redding, CT, Lisa Caputo Sacco (Mark) of Cary, NC, Christopher Caputo (Karen) of Hebron, CT and Marc D. Caputo (Elke) of Suwanee, GA, six grandchildren: Alaria Longstaff (Drew), Julia Sacco (Mo, partner), Matthew, Zachary, Dominick and Eva Caputo as well as three generations of nieces and nephews to whom she was very close.
Rosemarie was a math whiz and was the first female to win the math prize at Cloonan Junior High School. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1955 where she excelled in Latin and was an adviser for the sophomore class. Following graduation, she went to secretarial school and was employed at American Cyanamid and Dorr Oliver until her first child was born. Rosemarie reared her family in Norwalk for 25 years. She served as the PTA president of Kendall Elementary School and was active in the Junior Women’s League of Norwalk as well as Shore & Country Club. She was a parishioner at St. Mary’s then St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Norwalk. Rosemarie returned to the workforce where she began the community activism and social justice work that was so important to her and continued well into her seventies. She was employed at The East Avenue United Methodist Church, Save the Children and Nazareth College where she developed lifelong friendships. Before moving to Wilmington, NC, in 1992, she was employed in HR at Pitney Bowes in Stamford.
In Wilmington, Rosemarie put her prodigious organizational and people skills to work as the Benefits Manager of New Hanover Regional Hospital. Her final employment was as Vice President of Carolina Industrial Electronics, a business she co-owned with husband, Frank, and ultimately, retired from. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church where she cooked and delivered for Meals-on-Wheels. She volunteered at both Habit for Humanity and Vintage Values, a resale shop whose profits provide emergency and support services for survivors of domestic violence.
Rosemarie was a generous and joyful person, dedicated to her family, Italian heritage, and her faith. She was passionate about hats and had dozens in her collection. It was rare to see her without one on. She enjoyed making the world beautiful through gardening and caring deeply about her community. She was an excellent dancer and loved singing, particularly hymns. She treasured sharing her traditions as loving Nonna to her grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10:00– 11:00a.m. on Thursday December 16, 2021, at Lacerenza Funeral Home on 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 37 Schulyer Avenue, Stamford, CT at 11:30am.
