Sharon F. Wechter, 68 of Fairfield, formerly of Norwalk, the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Wechter III, passed away peacefully at home, in her sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on December 1, 2021. She was born in Bridgeport to the late Carmello (Chuck) and Joan Ferrara and was the stepdaught­er of the late Harriet Ferrara.

Sharon attended local Fairfield schools and graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1971. She attended The Fones School of Dental Hygiene and graduated in 1973.

She was a dental hygienist for the late Dr. Bruno Preli, DDS in New Canaan and Dr. Jeffery Pivor, DDS, in Norwalk. Sharon actively served in the Gateway Dental Hygienist chapter of the Connecticu­t Dental Hygienist Associatio­n and served as past Treasurer, Secretary and President of the Gateway. She was also a Trustee and House Manager to the CT Dental Hygienist Associatio­n.

Sharon was a kind soul, with a smile that would light up a room. She was an avid traveler visiting many countries in Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and the USA. Her keen eye and love for photograph­y leaves her family a lovely legacy of photo albums of her adventures. Sharon’s love of music brought her great joy, and her musical tastes were wide, from the rock era of the 60’s & 70’s to Barbra Streisand to classical. Sharon was also a lay minister at Grace Episcopal Church in Norwalk.

Sharon is survived by her loving brother, James “Jay” Ferrara of Springfiel­d, MA. She will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Edward Ferrara of Philadelph­ia, PA, Mary Ferrara of West Springfiel­d, MA, John Ferrara and Colin Ferrara of Northampto­n, MA, as well as many cousins, in-laws and friends.

Friends may gather and greet her family on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Shaughness­ey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A memorial service will take place at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Rd. in Fairfield on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. The service will be livestream­ed at https://client.tribucast.com/ tcid/3399986770. Interment will be private. At the request of Sharon’s family, please wear a mask to all portions of the service.
