NORWALK — A new web application from Norwalk ACTS allows families to search after school and summer programs for their children in one convenient location.

The Out of School Time Program Locator features program that exist in the city. Families can search for programs and filter by age, price, type, time and days. Each program has its own profile page with additional program and contact information.

“We designed the program locator to ensure that all Norwalk young people are connected to year-round, meaningful out-of-school experiences,” said Jennifer Barahona, CEO of Norwalk ACTS, in a press release. “We hope this resource helps make it easier to connect families to program providers.

There are more than 40 programs are featured in the application. Program providers that are not listed can submit their program and contact information. Program information will be added and updated continuously. The application is accessible on desktop or mobile, and available in Spanish and HaitianCreole languages.

Programs range from academic pursuits to arts, music, and dance. Kids can better prepare for college and careers or build their leadership skills. They can also participate in sports, health and wellness classes, or outdoor programs.

“We want the program locator to be as simple and easy to use as possible, so we held multiple design feedback sessions with parents and community providers,” said Ray Leslie, data analyst for Norwalk ACTS, in the release. “The feedback shared, coming directly from community members, was invaluable to the design process.”

The program locator will help parents who previously had to do their own research or ask other parents to find a good program for their children. Doreen Anderson, a parent and community advocate for Norwalk ACTS, called it a “game-changer for parents.”

The search tool is part of the organization’s Out of School Time Initiative which aims to develop and sustain a system that ensures the city’s children and youth are provided with high-quality, affordable learning opportunities that meet academic, social-emotional, and health and wellness needs.
