NEW CANAAN — Silvermine School of Art continued its tradition of highlighting the community's youngest artists with featured work this month by P-TECH students.

The arts center will host the “Teen Fusion” show through April 25 in the Student Gallery. The exhibit features the work of art students taking Norwalk Community College graphic design courses at P-TECH Norwalk as part of the college program while completing their high school academics.

“P-TECH is fortunate to have Mary Jo (McGonagle) on staff to allow students access to college level art courses,” said P-TECH principal Karen Amaker in a press release. “To have the opportunity to showcase their talent at the Silvermine Arts Center validates them as artists.”

McGonagle is a graphic design artist and instructor with the high school.

“It is so fulfilling to see my students develop their artistic skills over the course of the semester,” she said in the release.

Student artists shared their worked at the gallery opening on April 6 with a reception that welcomed teachers, family, friends, and Silvermine staff members.

Barbara Linarducci, the CEO of Silvermine Arts Center, called the student art exhibit a part of the center's “mission to deepen its engagement with the community” and to give student artists a wider audience.

“In its centennial year, Silvermine is continuing to expand its reach in art education – both through its outreach programs and its collaborations with scholarly programs that are revitalizing the teaching of art and design,” Linarducci said.
