STAMFORD — An Orangetheory Fitness studio is set to open Wednesday in the ShopRite Plaza on the city's west side, marking the fast-growing business' second establishment in Stamford.

The 2,900-square-footcenter will operate at 2000 W. Main St., next to a TMobile store. It will feature “all new state-of-the-art equipment along with the proprietary in-studio and wearable fitness technology Orangetheory is known for globally, as well as beautifully adorned bathrooms with full showers and a large lobby area to encourage members to socialize before and after class,” according to a news release.

Franchisee Empire Portfolio Group also owns and operates the other Stamford Orangetheory studio, which opened in 2019 at 1101 High Ridge Road. In total, Empire has more than 130 Orangetheory Fitness studios across Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

“We are excited to bring our second Orangetheory studio to Stamford,” Empire CEO Adam Krell said in a statement. “Over the past few years, the community has shown us their dedication to wellness and a healthy lifestyle. We can't wait for Stamford-west side residents, regardless of their fitness level, to become part of the Orangetheory family and start seeing results from the science-backed, highenergy workout.”

In Connecticut, there are also Orangetheory studios in Danbury, Darien, Fairfield, Glastonbury, Guilford, Hamden, Manchester, Milford, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Shelton, West Hartford and Westport.

Orangetheory has nearly 1 million members and has awarded more than 1,400 franchises across 27 countries, according to its website.

The company's programming focuses on one-hour, full-body workouts that aim to develop endurance, strength and power.

“During our heart ratebased HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout, your coach will guide you through our five different heart rate zones: resting, easy, challenging, uncomfortable and all out, telling you when to push harder and when to pull back for recovery,” Orangetheory says on its website. “The goal is to spend 12 minutes or more with your heart rate elevated in ‘The Orange Zone' to boost your metabolism, burn fat and burn more calories.”
