SUV, golf clubs, credit cards, tools stolen

NEW CANAAN — Police say they are investigating a series of thefts over the past week.

The incidents began around 1 p.m. last Thursday after officers were called to the Farity and Orchard drives area for suspicious activity, police said. A resident had called police to report three people in hoodies trying to enter vehicles.

They were seen in a darkcolored Porsche that was later determined to be stolen, police said. New Canaan authorities alerted state police to the vehicle after it was seen getting on the Merritt Parkway heading north. Police said officers canvassed the neighborhood and were shown video of one of the alleged burglars opening an unlocked car.

Later that evening just before 6 p.m., New Canaan police said a person reported credit cards had been stolen from a wallet left in their vehicle parked at Rosebrook Road.

“The credit cards were missing and subsequently used fraudulently in Waterbury,” police said. “In addition, a driver’s license and a check for payment from a customer were also stolen from the wallet.”

On Saturday, police said they received a report from a West Road resident who said a set of golf clubs had been stolen from a garage.

On Monday, police said a 2022 Nissan Rogue SUV was stolen on Locust Avenue. The vehicle was recovered the following day in Ansonia with the key fob inside, police said.

Also on Monday, police said officers were called to a construction site on Lakeview Avenue for a report of stolen tools.

“Please remember to always lock your vehicles and take the keys with you,” police said in a statement. “Often, identity theft occurs when drivers’ licenses and credit cards are stolen.”
