The Norwalk Hour

Carmela B. Tornatore

-

Carmela Brunetto Tornatore, 60, of Norwalk, Connecticut, entered eternal rest before daybreak on February 13, 2023. As one final gift to her family, friends, and the world, she saw fit to help us all cope by delivering an unseasonably warm day ending with a sunset worthy of a painting. But that’s just who Carmela was – sunshine and a guiding light when you needed it the most, no matter who you were.

Born in Sicily on May

11, 1962 to Vincenzo and Vincenza Brunetto, Carmela was the helpful hand or listening ear to anyone in need – making sure all were taken care of even if she had to go out of her way to make it happen. A kind heart and a gentle soul, Carmela lived her life in service of others, whether it was in her role as a wife, mother, nonna, daughter, sister, or friend, or professionally as the Director of Recreation at the Greens at Cannondale for its many residents. Being part of her family, whether biological or otherwise, meant there was always a place for you at her dinner table and leftovers to take home, because she didn’t want you to have to worry about tomorrow.

Carmela is survived by her husband, Sebastian, her sons, Dominic and Vincenzo, her daughter, Alessandra, and her son and daughter-in-law, Sebastian and Betsy, all of Norwalk; as well as her mother, Vincenza

of Darien, her sisters, Josephine (Allen) Crosby of West Haven, Mary (Charles) Johnson of Simpsonville, SC, and Francesca (Chris) Scalise of Trumbull, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews near and far. She is predeceased by her father, Vincenzo. While she loved fiercely, all took a backseat to the true lights of her life: her granddaughters, Emma Jett and Beatrice Carmela Tornatore, in each of whom her spirit lives on.
