-

David Lawrence Nelson entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, February 10th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 8, 1941, in New York City to the late Ann and Lawrence Nelson. Dave was a veteran with the United States Army, where he served for many years. Dave spent countless hours in New Jersey while his sons, David and Adam, were growing up to watch them play football and soccer. Dave participated in numerous crystal theater productions alongside his daughter, Sarra. Some of the fondest memories of Dave was announcing pop warner games at All Saints School. In his later years, you could find Dave down at calf pasture beach umpiring softball games and being one of the guys. Dave loved being a grampy to his grandkids and making memories with them. He had a fond love of the New York Giants, bald eagles and everything red, white and blue. His favorite Friday night adventure was going on date night with his wife, Judy, to their favorite place, McDonalds. Dave was known as the “gentle giant” to all he crossed paths with.

Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Nelson; son, David Nelson (wife, Debra Nelson of Guilford, CT); son, Adam Nelson (wife, Karyn Nelson of Australia) and daughter,

Sarra Nelson. His loving grandkids, Kyleigh, Christopher, Andrew, Kenzie, Reese and Zoey. Brother, Bruce Nelson (of Lake George NY); and sister, JoAnn Nelson (of Fairfield, CT). Along with many cousins, friends, nieces, nephews, and others he considered his “kids.”

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Ann and Larry Nelson; brother, Bob Nelson; and brother, Andy Nelson. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16th from 4pm-8pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.

A Celebration of Life will be on Friday February 17th at 11am at Cornerstone Community Church, 718 West Avenue, Norwalk.

Per request, the family asks that everyone who attends the celebration of life to wear red, white and blue.
