William C. Mesa October 16, 1933 - February 15, 2023
William C. Mesa, 89, longtime Westport resident passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Norwalk Hospital. William was born on October 16, 1933, in Medellin, Colombia, the beloved son of Anita Mesa. Early in his life, he excelled in mathematics and showed great interest in accountancy and metalwork. He worked as a bookkeeper for a textile company and a bank. In 1965, he came to the US and by day worked in the café of the New York Philharmonic and nights as a deposit clerk at Chase Manhattan Bank. He started a family and soon thereafter moved to Connecticut. He had a strong work ethic and instilled the importance of family and fiscal responsibility. In July of 2000, he retired after 27 years at Pitney Bowes. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with tools in his younger days, and after retirement, he was fortunate to be able to travel to Europe and return to his home country to see family. He loved having company, and music and dancing, especially a tango.
He is survived by his three children, Elizabeth, David and Beatriz; his sister
Blanca, niece, Maria Cecilia, great-nephew, Kenneth Vadala and great-niece, Natalie Vadala and her husband Douglas Westervelt and many more nieces and nephews he adored. He was predeceased by his brother, Alberto, his former wife, Magdalena, his mother Anita, brother, Oscar, and nephews Pablo Julian and Carlos Mario.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral on Monday February 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM meeting directly at Assumption Church 98 Riverside Ave in Westport, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial. The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home 210 Post Road East, Westport, CT on Sunday February 19, 2023 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
