Joseph M. Murawski

Joseph M. Murawski, 81, of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2023. Born in Stamford, CT to the late Joseph and Angelina (Riante) Murawski, he was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving at Camp Pendleton, CA, and later in Hong Kong and Japan before earning his honorable discharge in 1963.

After moving back to Connecticut, Joe spent the next 59 years in the floor covering business, serving both commercial and residential customers. A standout baseball player in high school, he later shared his passion by coaching youth baseball at all levels. A talented vocalist (with a penchant for “doowop”), he encouraged his sons - and grandsons - to pursue their varied musical interests each from an early age. His tireless work ethic, positive attitude and clever wit were each his trademark to family and friends, and often provided comfort to perfect strangers as well. Occasionally counseling at a Connecticut prison, volunteering at a local nursing home or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor, he made friends easily – and had many of them.

But nothing made him happier than spending time with friends, family and, especially, his grandsons. Whether it was watching them play high-school sports, enjoying a musical performance or simply visiting with them across the kitchen table, he never missed a chance to just spend time catching up.

Joe is survived by his sons; Joseph, and his wife Barbara (Norwalk), his son Darryl (Norwalk), and his beloved grandsons; Michael (San Diego, CA), Christopher (Santa Monica, CA), and Sean (Norwalk, CT); his brother, John (Norwalk); many nieces and nephews; and his loving partner of 25 years, Linda Lyons. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Jean Lasczak.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT 06851.
