All Saints School announces Angel Benefit honorees
All Saints Catholic School in Norwalk announced the honorees for its inaugural Angel Benefit to be held on April 29 at the Italian Club in Stamford.
The highest and most prestigious award — the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award — will go to Sister Sally Norcross.
The award named for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, who founded Catholic Schools in the United States, goes each year to an honoree who played a significant role in the founding and growth of All Saints Catholic School.
Norcross is a member of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal. In 1969, she began teaching at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Norwalk. After a year, she was assigned to a Girls’ Academy in Waterbury.
She returned to St. Thomas the Apostle School in 1975 and continued teaching until 1990, when she became the assistant principal at All Saints.
In 2012, she was named pastoral assistant at St. Matthew Church, where she worked with those suffering from illness, grief and family crises.
The St. John Neumann Award will go to the Rev. Sudhir DSouza, pastor of St. Philip Church. St. John Neumann is the patron saint of Catholic education. This award will be given to a priest who manifests leadership in the promotion of ASCS and Catholic education.
DSouza belongs to the Diocese of Varanasi in India and was sent to the U.S. to continue his studies for an MBA degree. After his studies, the Diocese of Bridgeport asked him to continue his parish ministry in Connecticut.
The St. Aloysius Gonzaga Award will go to Sgt. Sal Calise of the Norwalk Police Department and an ASCS alumni parent.
St. Aloysius is the patron saint and model for servant
leadership. This award will be given to a community leader who manifests the qualities of servant leadership and is committed to improving the quality of life in greater Norwalk.
During his daughter’s years at ASCS, Calise served as a volunteer for countless events as well as president of the Home School Association.
The St. Katherine Drexel Award will go Holly Doughterty-Lemoine. St. Katherine is the patron saint of philanthropists. This award each year will be given to an individual influential in providing or securing philanthropic support of ASCS.
Doherty-Lemoine was appointed executive director for Foundations in Education in December 2016, tasked with overseeing efforts to transform diocesan Catholic schools.
