Greenwich boys swimming wins 52nd FCIAC title in 53 years

The Greenwich boys swimming and diving team won its 52nd FCIAC championsh­ip in 53 years with a dominating performanc­e in the swim finals Friday at the Greenwich pool.

The Cardinals racked up 498 points to finish more than 200 ahead of runner-up Ridgefield, which scored 298.. Norwalk/McMahon (288), Staples (262) and New Canaan (206) rounded out the top five.

Staples’ senior Parker

Leonce was named the Most Outstandin­g Swimmer of the meet. He set a new FCIAC record with a time of 48.78 in the 100 backstroke, won the 200 freestyle (1:39.29) and led off the Wreckers’ winning 200 freestyle relay (1:26.19).

For Greenwich, senior Aiden Bucaria won two events, finishing first in the 100 freestyle (46.41) and 100 breaststro­ke (56.81). He was also part of the Cardinals’ 200 medley relay, which won in 1:33.89.
