Police: Wilton slaying a ‘senseless act of violence’

Officials disclose some details of Partrick Lane killing, but motive still unknown

- By Peter Yankowski

WILTON — A police official on Thursday described the killing of a local man in the town’s first homicide in more than a decade as “a senseless act of violence.”

Sebastian Andrews, 31, has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his neighbor, Arinzechukwu Ukachukwu.

But police say the motive remains unknown.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Andrews claimed shortly after he was apprehended that he acted in self-defense.

But Wilton Deputy Police Chief Robert Cipolla said Thursday “the investigation thus far has revealed that this was an extremely violent attack and is best described as a senseless act of violence.”

Andrews remains in custody at Bridgeport Correctional Center after a Superior Court judge in Stamford increased his bond to $2 million during his arraignment Wednesday.

Police said Andrews was arrested at his Indian Hill Road home Tuesday after police found the 39year-old Ukachukwu’s body in the garage of his property on the adjacent Partrick Lane.

According to the arrest warrant, Andrews’ father called 911 around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday when he looked out the window and saw a man he believed to be his son “stabbing” Ukachukwu in the victim’s driveway.

Wilton police said Andrews was taken into custody without incident at his family’s home. His home was listed as the same Indian Hill Road address as his father.

Andrews told a police detective that he went to Ukachukwu’s home Tuesday morning to ask “Ari” for a “wedge,” according to the warrant. But Andrews also told

police he “wanted to see what was going on because he found ‘them trespassing on his property several times, specifically in his attic,’ ” the warrant stated.

Cipolla said Thursday there were no reported incidents between the neighbors “other than normal neighbor-toneighbor contact.”

Andrews told investigators that Ukachukwu looked at him “with eyes that looked insane,” the warrant stated. Andrews claimed Ukachukwu took him to the garage, where he believed the man was “about to hit him with something,” so he attacked his neighbor “with a knife he got from his kitchen,” the warrant stated.

But other evidence referenced in the warrant appears to contradict that series of events.

Andrews’ father told police he witnessed the stabbing in Ukachukwu’s driveway, the warrant said. Blood at the scene also led from the driveway into

the garage where Ukachukwu’s body was found, according to the warrant.

Property records indicate

Ukachukwu and his wife moved to Wilton and purchased the home last summer.

“The town is deeply saddened

by this tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” said

state Rep. Keith Denning, a Democrat whose district includes New Canaan, Ridgefield and Wilton.
