NEW CANAAN — Kathleen Corbet has announced that she won’t run for reelection after serving two terms on the Board of Selectmen.

When reached by phone on Monday, Corbet said she’s decided it was time to “clear the field” for others who might want to run for the position. Corbet will serve out the rest of her term.

“I remain fully dedicated to fulfilling my responsibilities for the remaining five-plus months of my term, continuing to advocate for good governance and transparency, and to collaborate to achieve better master planning, responsible budget management and effective communication throughout our community,” Corbet, a Democrat, said in a letter.

Corbet joined the board in 2020, filling the position left vacant when then-Selectman Kit Devereaux moved to Maryland. In addition to her time as a selectman, Corbet previously served as a member of the Town Council, Board of Finance, Charter Revision Commission, Town Hall Building Committee, and as interim CFO for the Town of New Canaan.

She has also served on the board of directors of the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, appointed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

In the phone interview, Corbet said she’s valued all of her positions with the town.

“In each way, I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to serve our community in different capacity,” she said.

Outside of her public service, Corbet is active in the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Corbet is the founder of Cross Ridge Capital LLC, formed in 2008 and specializing in private investing and strategic consulting in the financial information services industry.

She was formerly president of Standard & Poor’s and previously in senior leadership positions for more than 20 years in asset management for Alliance Capital LP (now AB).

Corbet also has served since 2008 on the board of directors for MassMutual Financial Group and served as Lead Director from 2015 to 2018. She also serves as a director for Axiom Software Laboratories (private equityheld) and BlackRock TCP Capital Corp.

Her work in the nonprofit world has included serving on the board of trustees for The Jackson Laboratory and as chairman of the board of Waveny LifeCare Network.

In addition to all this, Corbet said she’s “open to other opportunities” in her post-selectman life, including traveling and spending time with family.

“We will miss her service to the town,” said First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.
