Paving work delayed by rainy weather

WILTON — The paving work on a 2mile stretch of Route 7 has been delayed at least a week due to inclement weather, according to a statement from the town of Wilton.

The town said last week that many residents had reached out about the delays in the work on Route 7, also known as Danbury Road, which is a state-owned road.

“The delay is the result of delays on the part of the paving contractor,” the statement said. “Paving was scheduled to begin at the start of (last) week. Through (Thursday) night, the vender had postponed each day.”

The paving had originally been scheduled to begin on June 18, barring any weather delays, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Work on the milling had even continued during the days with bad air quality in early June, with a spokesperson for CTDOT saying, “There’s a lot of work to be done.”

The town said it is in “regular contact” with CTDOT about the project.

“Unlike the town of Wilton, which contracts with one vendor for both milling and paving, Connecticut Department of Transportation contracts with two vendors: one to perform the milling work and a second to perform the paving work,” the statement said.

The project began on June 5 with milling of the existing pavement on Route 7 from Wolfpit Road, also known as Route 106, to Wilton High School’s north entrance. It is about a 2.3-mile section of the roadway, according to Google maps.

When the paving work begins, CTDOT will post messages on the digital message boards located at Gaylord Drive North and at the north entrance of Wilton High School, the statement said.

The work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Sunday night through Friday morning.

The paving work is expected to take two weeks to complete, if there are no significant weather delays, the town said in a statement.

“Paving can’t be performed when it is raining. Unfortunately, rain is forecasted ... through (this) week.
