Gabriele DiNoto Sr., 99, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2023 surrounded by his family. Gabriele was predecease­d by his wife Mary Carmella in 2002. He was a resident of Norwalk for nearly 70 years. Born in Casamiccio­la Terme, on the Island of Ischia, Italy on January 31, 1924. He was one of 13 children of Giovanni DiNoto and Anna (Donnaruma) DiNoto. He married Mary Carmella Generoso in Italy in 1953 then came to the U.S. where they raised their three sons. Gabriele is remembered for his kindness and his intuitive ability to repair almost anything. He was employed locally by Metalix, Zell Products, and Perkin Elmer Corporatio­n as a tool, model maker and foreman. While he lacked formal training as an engineer, he was frequently sought out for his design suggestion­s and ability to solve manufactur­ing problems. As a young shipyard craftsman and mechanic, he later built 2 boats and enjoyed Long Island Sound with his family and friends for many years. Gabriele served as an usher at St. Joseph’s Parish for over 20 years. He and Carmella enjoyed travelling to Europe and especially back to Ischia in the summer and did so regularly following his retirement in 1985. His family will always cherish his entertaini­ng stories from the past, his humor, and love of pizza fritta. Gabriele is survived by his three sons and their spouses, John and

Mary Beth of Newtown, CT, Mario and Laura of Branford, CT and Gabriel Jr. and Dawn of Norwalk. He was a loving grandpa to Christophe­r, Alex, Matthew, Joshua, Zach, “Papa” to Francis, Anisa and Philip as well as great-grandpa to Claire and Kyle. The family would like to thank Gabriele’s caregivers Sergio, Charmante, Merly, Marie, and nurses Kris and Sandy for their loving care on his journey.

The family will receive friends at Magner Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28th, from 4 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, June 29th at 10 am at St. Joseph RC Church in South Norwalk. Interment at St. John’s RC cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributi­ons be made to St. Joseph and St. Ladislaus parish in Norwalk.
