Four-vote win margin upheld in Wilton finance board race

WILTON — After a recount was completed Monday for a seat on the town’s Board of Finance, the complete results of the Nov. 7 municipal election are available.

As a result of the recount, Prasad Iyer was elected to a seat on the board, with his margin of victory narrowed from six votes to four votes, Democratic Registrar of Voters Karen Birck said Tuesday.

Iyer, a Republican, edged out David Tatkow, a Democrat, for the third seat on the finance board, 2,544 to 2,540 votes, according to the recount. Slava Servello, a Democrat, came up short with 2,454 votes.

The other two seats on the finance board were filled by Timothy Birch, a Democrat and top vote-getter whose tally increased by three ballots to 2,659 in the recount, and Rudy Escalante, a Republican who got an extra vote in the recount for a total of 2,572 ballots.

The finance board was the only race with a recount in Wilton. Birck said a recount could have been held in the constables race. Peter Wrampe, chair of the Wilton Republican Town Committee, garnered the fewest votes for constable with 2,257 ballots but waived his right to a recount, Birck said.

Two races were unopposed in Wilton’s municipal election: the first selectwomanelect, Toni Boucher, and an alternate for the zoning appeals board, Lily Zoruba, faced no opposition on the ballot.

With approximately 5,000 ballots cast of the town’s about 12,400 eligible voters — a 41.76 percent turnout — here are the uncertified tallies for Wilton’s municipal election, according to the Connecticut secretary of the state.

Candidates are organized from greatest to least votes tallied in the preliminary results of the town’s municipal election. Bolded names reflect a filled seat, according to Birck, although results are still listed as unofficial with the Secretary of the State.
