Evarito’s Mexican Kitchen & Bar closes in South Norwalk
NORWALK — Evarito’s Mexican Kitchen & Bar closed on Saturday after more than five years in South Norwalk, the restaurant announced on social media Friday.
In the announcement, the restaurant thanked its customers for their support over the past several years, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic, and expressed appreciation for all the employees who’ve worked there.
“As we close this chapter and reflect on the memories created, we eagerly anticipate the unfolding of a new vision for this extraordinary space,” the announcement said.
Evarito’s opened in July 2018 at 14-16 N. Main St., located at the junction of Washington Street, in the building once housed Avrick Furniture.
The venue was created by Skal Restaurant Group, which runs Cask Republic in Stamford and The Ginger Man in Greenwich.
In a 2018 interview with Connecticut Magazine, owner Christian Burns said he initially wanted to open a restaurant specializing in Tex-Mex food, but his trips to Mexico City inspired him to gravitate toward more authentic Mexican cuisine.
Burns and Mexican chef and restaurant owner Hugo Orozco created a seafood-centric menu with specialties like fajitas, tacos, wood-fired Portuguese octopus and raw bar with ceviche and oysters.
Burns also added a rooftop patio and bar the following spring, as well as hosted DJs and live Latin music.
Burns could not be reached for comment Sunday about the restaurant’s closure.
Like many restaurants, Evarito’s had few in-person customers during the COVID-19 lockdown but the restaurant said takeout orders helped the business stay afloat.
The restaurant has been ranked by Connecticut Magazine experts as one of the best outdoor and Mexican dining spots in the state.
