Elizabeth Sayre Wilson
Elizabeth Sayre Wilson of Norwalk, CT, passed away from this life on December 26, 2023. Born in 1937 in New York City, her family moved to the Glenbrook section of Stamford during her early childhood years, where her father and grandfather had built a house. She graduated from Stamford High School and attended the University of Connecticut where she studied English, Biology and Chemistry. She married John Robert Wilson and had three children.
The family moved to Norwalk, CT and she and her husband lived there for the next 60 years.
Mrs. Wilson had a position in Cytotechnology at Norwalk Hospital where she worked closely with the departments of Pathology and Histology to screen for cancer. She worked at the hospital for over 35 years.
Mrs. Wilson and her husband were music aficionados, with a record collection of all kinds of music. But her favorite was classical music. She sang in church choirs as a young person, and continued singing, as an alto, in the Fairfield County Chorale for a number of years.
Mrs. Wilson had many hobbies including cooking, baking, gardening, canning/ preserving fruits and vegetables, sewing, needlepoint, knitting and puzzles. She was also an avid reader.
Her favorite hobby, however, was undoubtedly dog training. Mrs. Wilson became a blue-ribbon winning competitor in dog obedience and tracking competitions. She was involved with a number of local kennels, such as Taconic Hills, Great Barrington, and Ox Ridge, as well as the American Kennel Club. Her dogs, over the years, included Gordon Setters, English Cocker Spaniels, and Golden Retrievers.
She is survived by her daughter Leslie Wilson Light (Matthew) of Milford, son William Scott Wilson of Lexington, SC, and five grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband John Robert ( J.R.) Wilson, son Robert Sayre Wilson, and her brother Robert Sayre, of Oakland, CA.
Elizabeth Sayre Wilson will be missed for her kindness, her sense of humor, as well as her intelligence and rapier wit.
