State adds 695 confirmed cases, 6 confirmed deaths
Michigan added 695 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 6 new confirmed deaths due to the virus on Friday, according to the state’s website.
The state now, in total, has 115,384 confirmed cases and 6,638 confirmed deaths.
With 12,113 probable cases and 316 probable deaths, this brings Michigan to 127,500 confirmed and probable cases and 6,954 confirmed and probable deaths.
Probable cases include individuals who never tested positive for the virus, but who were presumed to be infected due to their symptoms and past exposure.
Similarly, a probable death is defined as those whose death certificate listed COVID-19 as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death.
Disease in context
According to data accumulated by John Hopkins University, worldwide, over 30.3 million cases have been reported and 948,147 deaths have occurred.
In the United States, as of Saturday, over 6.7 million cases have been reported with more than 198,197 deaths tied to the disease.
India remained second in the world in the number of cases, with over 5.2 million cases, and Brazil was second globally in the number of deaths, with 134,935 deaths, John Hopkins reports.
John Hopkins ranks Michigan as the ninth state in the U.S. with the most total number of deaths, with New York as first.
Who was tested?
Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing.
To date, 3,602,456 total diagnostic and serology tests have been conducted within the state of Michigan. So far, 3,319,787 diagnostic tests have been conducted.
As of Friday, a total of 85,513 Michiganders have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a total which is updated by the state every Saturday.
