• Saint Joseph Mercy Health System welcome donations of personal protective equipment. The health system continues to accept the following unused and unopened items: Isolation gowns, N95 masks, hand sanitizer, procedure/ surgical masks, and Lysol/ Clorox wipes. Homemade masks continue to be in high demand. Here is a recommended pattern for creating homemade cotton face masks. Donations are accepted at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday: Drop off at Medical Office Building (MOB), 44555 Woodward Ave., Pontiac, located on the hospital’s main campus, just north of the Main Entrance. • Many mental health and substance use providers throughout Southeast Michigan have had to limit their services, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Easterseals Michigan is committed to providing essential services for mental health and substance use, including medications. • New Day Foundation works with cancer patients who have weakened immune systems and at higher risk to the COVID-19 virus. • The Children’s Leukemia
Foundation of Michigan serves patients with comprised immune systems who are more at risk. The organization is offering services virtually, including support groups, and seeking emergency funding to help with the sudden uptick in requests for financial support. • The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation is activating $1.25 million in emergency funding to support organizations on the frontlines of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) response. Detroit organizations are eligible to apply for relief funding. Organizations must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit and can submit an application at www.joyinchildhoodfoundation.org/covid19grants. • The Fleece & Thank You organization works with local groups to make fleece blankets packaged with video messages and deliver them to hospitalized children. • With Oakland County Schools closed, the need for meals for children is greater. Lighthouse is providing extra assistance to families in need, during the COVID-19 outbreak. • FLAG Metro Detroit, an organization with the mission to offer support and meals to the front line medical staff, to help restaurants stay in business. All donations will be used to purchase individually wrapped meals from local restaurants that will then be delivered to hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. • United Way for Southeastern Michigan has expanded the use of its volunteer portal of in-person volunteer projects, along with virtual volunteer opportunities for anyone to pitch in and contribute. Available volunteer projects are added regularly to the volunteer portal and include virtual call center help, delivering food to vulnerable families, packing food boxes for seniors and ways to contribute in-kind.
