Fugitive team nabs local woman who skipped sentencing for brutal assault
A Lyon Township woman who skipped out onher sentencing hearing for a brutal baseball bat assault is now in the Oakland County Jail, picked up Sept. 23 by the Fugitive Apprehension Team of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Jessica Kropiewnicki, 25, forfeited her bond when she went onthe lamSept. 2, cutting her electronic tether and not showing up to be sentenced for assault with intent to murder involving AlexsanderMalec last year. In February, Kropiewnicki pleaded no contest to the crime which reportedly left Malec with hearing loss, issues with memory and speech and other problems . Co- de fendant Christopher Simons, 30, of Fowlerville, is awaiting trial in Oakland County Circuit
Court on the same charge.
At a preliminary exam last year, Malec said that he once considered Kropiewnicki his girlfriend. It’s believed Kropiewnicki set him up for the assault, which happened May 5, 2019 as he and she walked down a trail in Lyon Township. Malec testified that he was attacked by someone in a motorcycle-type mask who used a baseball bat to strike him multiple times in the head and elsewhere. Malec also said he was repeatedly kicked in the stomach and hit in the legs.
After being assaulted, Malec was found covered in blood and unconscious, inside a house on Martindale Road in Lyon Township. He had gone to the house for help, then broke in when he discovered no one was home. The homeowners discovered him sometime later and called police. Kropiewnicki was arrested two days later and subsequently admitted that she and a co-conspirator were responsible for the assault, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Kropiewnicki’s new sentencing date is Sept. 30, with Judge James Alexander handing down the penalty.
