Michigan reports over 1,000 new cases

11 new deaths added Wednesday

In Michigan on Wednesday, 1,054 new confirmed cases and 11 new confirmed deaths were reported, according to the state’s website.

This brings the state to 124,687 confirmed cases and 6,762 confirmed deaths, in total.

With 13,327 probable cases and 321 probable deaths, this brings Michigan to 138,014 confirmed and probable cases and 7,083 confirmed and probable deaths.

Averages and Totals

The seven- day average on Wednesday was about 867 confirmed cases and 10 confirmed deaths added per day.

The seven-day total was 6,072 new confirmed cases added and 70 confirmed deaths.

In total, since Wednesday is the last day of the month, September ended with 22,219 confirmed cases and 278 confirmed deaths, averaging 741 new confirmed cases and nine confirmed deaths per day for the entire month.

Of that, 10,715 confirmed cases and 126 confirmed deathswere reported in the firsthalf of themonth, from Sept. 1-15, averaging 714 confirmed cases and nine confirmed deaths added

per day.

And, in the last half of the month, 11,504 confirmed cases and 150 confirmed deaths were reported, which is about 767 confirmed cases and 10 confirmed deaths added per day.

August added a total of 20,869 confirmed cases and 265 confirmed deaths, which is an average of about 673 confirmed cases and 9 confirmed deaths added per day.

Disease in Context

According to data accumulate­d by John Hopkins University, worldwide, over 33.7 million cases have been reported, and 1,010,288 deaths have occurred.

In the United States, as of Monday, over 7 million cases have been reported with more than 206,615 deaths tied to the disease.

India remained second in the world in the number of cases, with over 6.2 million cases, and Brazil was second globally in the number of deaths, with 142,921 deaths, John Hopkins reports.

John Hopkins ranks Michigan as the ninth state intheU.S. with themost total number of deaths, with New York as first.

Local tallies

In the city of Detroit on Wednesday, 14,440 confirmed cases and 1,530 confirmed deaths were reported, with 24 new confirmed case sand two new confirmed deaths.

Wayne County quoted 18,510 confirmed cases and 1,287 confirmed deaths on Wednesday, with 86 confirmed cases and no new confirmed deaths.

Oakland County saw 16,717 confirmed cases and 1,154 confirmed deaths, with 55 new confirmed cases and no new confirmed deaths added on Wednesday.

Macomb County had 14,250 confirmed cases and 976 confirmed deaths on Wednesday, totaling 95 new confirmed cases and one new confirmed death in the county.

In mid-Michigan, in IsabellaCo­unty onWednesda­y,

642 confirmed cases and 14 confirmed deaths were reported, making nine new confirmed cases and no new confirmed deaths.

There were 255 confirmed cases and 15 confirmed deaths in Gratiot County on Wednesday, meaning there were two new confirmed cases and no new confirmed deaths.

Clare County had 104 confirmed cases and 4 new confirmed deaths on Wednesday, with no change since the previous day.

The trend of adding numerous new cases per day in counties that have universiti­es continued, with Kent County, where Grand Valley State University is, adding 115 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, for a total of 9,368 confirmed cases.

Washtenaw County, where the University of Michigan is, added 47 new cases on Wednesday, totaling 3,377 confirmed cases.

Ingham County, where Michigan State is, added 19 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, making 3,536 confirmed cases.

Genesee County, where Kettering University and the University of Michigan — Flint are, added 74 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, for a total of 3,915 confirmed cases.

And in Kalamazoo County, which houses Western Michigan University, had 41 new confirmed cases, meaning there were 2,466 confirmed cases in the county on Wednesday.

Ottawa County also continued its trend of adding numerous cases, with 34 new confirmed cases added in the county on Wednesday, for a total of 3,361 confirmed cases.

Who was tested?

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing.

To date, 3,977,820 total diagnostic and serology tests have been conducted within the state of Michigan. So far, 3,683,262 diagnostic tests have been conducted.

As of last Friday, a total of 95,051Michiga­nders have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a totalwhich is updated by the state every Saturday.
