Veterans and reserve members will receive free care packages at Oct. 10 event

Veterans and National Guard/ Reserve members are invited to Operation Care Package from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Pontiac Vet Center parking lot, 44200 Woodward Avenue.

At the event, each veteran will receive one free care package, valued at up to $40. The package include handwritte­n notes of thanks from students across the country. They are given to show thanks and appreciati­on for veterans’ service to the country.

The event ishostedby theMichiga­n Veterans Affairs Agency and Walking with Warriors. It will be contact-free, andmeasure­s are in place to keep everyone safe and healthy. Supplies are limited and registrati­on is required. Bring proof of service.

There will also be free flu shots for veterans and family members provided by Genoa Healthcare. Pre-fill and print form at bit.ly/ genoahealt­hcare.

• Flag Retirement: VFW Post 582 placed the second flag retirement

box for old and worn out American flags at the old Town Hall, 486 Mill St., downtown Ortonville. Participan­ts are asked to only dispose of normal size flags at this location and the larger 6 foot by 9 foot flags should be taken to the flag building at the

• Women Veterans Leadership Program: The program is hosted by the Mission Continues organizati­on, and it helps participan­ts

leverage their leadership skills to become change-makers and enhance their personal and profession­al networks. The goal of this program is to make women feel empowered to lead the charge for gender equality in their communitie­s. The program lasts five months and is individual­ized and free of charge. Graduates of the program will join a growing alumni network, and be eligible for additional mentorship and leadership opportunit­ies. • Veterans Resource Fair: CNS Healthcare hosts “Saluting Veterans and Their Families,” a virtual celebratio­n and resource fair from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Nov. 6.
