Oakland County advances 15 teams to state finals

The 2020boys tennis postseason got underway this week.

TheMHSAAad­justed the format this year, creating a team tournament to determine this year’s champion. That begin with 16 district tournament­s in each of the four divisions.

Each district winner advances to next week’s finals, which will be held Oct. 15-17.

Division 1 winners will play in Novi, while Division 2 winners will play in Midland. Division 3 winners will compete in Holland and Division 4 winners will play in Kalamazoo.

Division 1 TROY WINS TITLE ATHOME

The Troy boys tennis team earned the Division 1 District 13 championsh­ip on its home court Thursday, besting Rochester Adams in the final, 7-1.

The Colts defeated Clarkston 7-1 in the semifinal, whileAdams topped Oxford 8-0.

Singleswin­ners in the final for Troy were No. 1 Rishi Shetty (6-1,

6-0), No. 3 Derek Blackwell (6-2, 6-1) andNo. 4 SachinSrid­har (63, 6-3). Doubles winners for the Colts were No. 1 AndrewWang and Samay Achar (6-1, 6-4), No. 2ColbyDims­dale andSohanVi­ttalam (6-2, 6-0), No. 3 Josh Vijayasega­r and Nikhil Tatineni (6

The lone winner for Adams in the final was No. 2 singles Kevin Cong (6-3, 4-6, 13-11).

BLOOMFIELD HILLS ROLLS ALONG

Bloomfield Hills swept the field in the Division 1 District 14 tournament, as the Blackhawks defeated Lake Orin and Rochester 8-0 to win the title.

Singles winners for Bloomfield Hills in the final were No. 1 Noah Roslin (3-6, 6-3, 7-5), No. 2 Daniel Stojanov (6-0, 6-1), No. 3 Toni Vasile (6-3, 6-1) andNo. 4 Lucas Soloman (6-0, 6-0).

Doubles winners for the Blackhawks were No. 1 Michael Lee and Max Nosanchuk (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 Andrew Chen and Merrick Chernett (6-1, 6-2), No. 3 Josh Balan and Gus Berger (60, 6-1), andNo. 4DrewDavis and Noah Behrendt (6-2, 6-1).

NOVI BESTS CATHOLIC CENTRAL

The Novi boys tennis team won the Division 1 District 8 title this weekwith a 6-2win over

Detroit Catholic Central in the final.

The Shamrocks bested Brighton 8-0 in the semifinals, while Novi swept Walled Lake Northern.

Doubles winners for the Shamrocks were No. 3 Nick Maynard and Alec Maynard (7-5, 6-3) and No. 4 Ryan Luke and Owen Kendall (0-6, 7-6, 10-8).

BROTHERRIC­E SWEEPS DISTRICT FIELD

The Birmingham­Brother Rice tennis team put on a perfect run on its way to a D1 District 5 championsh­ip.

The Warriors bested Farmington 8- 0 in the semifinal and then topped Livonia Stevenson 8- 0 in the final.

Singles winners for the Warriors in the final were No. 1 Doug Prew (7-6, 6-3), No. 2 Dimitri Moriarty (61, 6-0), No. 3 Devyn Gans (6-2, 6-2) and No. 4 John Carthew (7-5, 6-2).

Doubles winners were No. 1 Jack Judge and Joe Turkot (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Nathan Grobbel and Sam Brockhaus (6-2, 6-1), No. 3 Eric Paswater and Ethan Anschuetz (6- 0, 6-1) and No. 4 Tom Cosgrove and Tommy Rook (6-0, 6-0).

TROYATHENS­ROLLS TO CHAMPIONSH­IP

The Troy Athens tennis team won the Division 1 District 10 title by sweeping Dearborn in the final, 8-0. The RedHawks also bested Dearborn Fordson 8-0 in the semifinal.

Gabe Brown (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Shray Naik (6-0, 6-1), No. 3 Aryan Verma (6-0, 6-0), and No. 4 Dev Patel (6-2, 6-3).

Doubles winners for the RedHawks were No. 1 Mayank Gudi and Rithwik Paladugu (2- 6, 6-1, 6-1), No. 2 Tushar Chittala and Alan Leon (6- 0, 6-1), No. 3 Shreyas Sankar and Armaan Verma (6-0, 6-1) and No. 4 AnayModi and Ayush Patel (6-0, 6-1).

STONEYCREE­KMOVINGON

The Stoney Creek tennis teamwon theD1Distr­ict 11 championsh­ip on Thursday with a 7-1 win over PortHuron Northern in the final.

The Cougars swept Fair Haven, 8-0, in the semifinal.

Singles winners in the final for Stoney Creek were No. 1 Iskender Geldiyev (60, 6-0), No. 2 JackBeglin(61, 5-7, 6-2), No. 3 Jonathan Barretto (6-0, 6-0) and No. 4 Tae Kim (6-0, 6-0).

Doubles winner for Stoney Creek were No. 1 Gage Beers and Anthony Kim (6-0, 6-3), No. 3 Joey Herrick and Brenden Lee (3- 6, 6-3, 6-1), and No. 4 Max Wall and Brian Kim (0-6, 6-3, 6-3).

WEST BLOOMFIELD­EDGED BY CANTON

TheWest Bloomfield tennis team suffered a 5-3 loss in the D1 District 6 final at Canton this week.

The Lakers reached the final with a 4-4 tiebreaker win over Plymouth in the district semifinal.

West Bloomfield won three doubles pairings in the finals. Mick Gordinier and Aaryan Chandna won No. 1 doubles (6-0, 3-6, 7-5), while Andrew Ingber and Lukas GraffwonNo. 3 doubles (6-3, 2-6, 7-6). Connor Joyce and Max Joyce won No. 4 doubles (7-5, 2-6, 7-6).

Division 2 SEAHOLMWIN­SONA TIEBREAKER

The Bi rmingham Seaholm tennis team won the competitiv­e Division

2 District 24 final, beating Berkley on a tiebreaker after the two played a 4-4 match.

Berkley took all four singles matches, while Seaholm won all four doubles matches. The Maples won more games overall, which gave them the tiebreaker.

Doubles winners for Seaholm were No. 1 Jonny Cross and Brendan Lamb (6-3, 6-2), No. 2 Nolan Werner and Zane Chutkow (6-0, 6-1), No. 3OwenO’Neill and Brady Wright (6- 0, 6- 0), and No. 4 Alex George and Alex Lewis (6-1, 6-4).

Central bested Milford 8-0 in the semifinal, while Holly topped Walled Lake Western 5-3.

Holly’s lone winner was in No. 1 singles, as Walker Glass won 6-0, 6-2.

GROVES CRUISES PAST JESUIT

The Birmingham­Groves tennis team swept Detroit U-D Jesuit 8-0 in the final of the D2 District 23 tournament this week.

Singles winners for the Falcons were No. 1 Jonah Liss (6- 0, 6-3), No. 2 Nolen Kovan (6-4, 6-2), No. 3 RJ Carrel (6-0, 6-1), No. 4

Dylan Wolf (6-0, 6-1).

NORTHFARMI­NGTON GETS PAST FLUSHING

The North Farmington tennis team bested Flushing in the D2 District 22 tournament final thisweek, 5-2.

S ingles winners for the Raiders were No. 2 Nick Cherney (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Logan Schuler (6-1, 6-0) and No. 4 Brian Lee (4-6, 6-0, 6-1). Doubles winners were No. 2 Ethan Saleh and Patrick Dechen (6-4, 6-3) and No. 4 Seth Brasch and Nikhil Desai (6-4, 7-5).

SOUTHLYONE­AST TOPS SOUTHLYON

South Lyon East won the Division 2 District 30 championsh­ip with a 5-3 win over rival, South Lyon.

East swept the singles flights. Winners were No. 1 Cameron Crosby (6-3, 6-4), No. 2 Adi Chottera (6-2, 6-0), No. 3 Sujay Rao (6-1, 6-1), and No. 4 Daniel Stack (6-1, 6-3). No. 4 doubles Jordan Long andMason Long (7-6, 6-2) were alsowinner­s for the Cougars.

The Detroit Country Day tennis team swept Riverview to claim the Division 3 District 40 championsh­ip.

The Cranbrook Kingswood tennis teamwon the Division 3 District 41 title with an 8-0 win over Madison Heights Lamphere.

Lamphere defeated Marysville 5-3 to reach the final.

Division 4 NOTREDAMEP­REP EDGES FRANKEL

The Pontiac NotreDame Prep tennis team won the Division 4 District 56 championsh­ip by besting Frankel Jewish Academy 5-3.

Singles winners for the Irish were No. 1 Kadin Kinloch (6-1, 6-0) and No. 2 Cole Bennett (6- 0, 6- 0). Irish doubles winners were No. 1 DavidMohr and Frank Roth (6-3, 6-0), No. 2 Alex Housey and Aidan Mehta (5-7, 7-5, 6-1) and No. 3 Max Thornton and Ben Valade (6-2, 4-6, 6-1).

Singles winners for Frankel Jewish Academy were No. 3 Aidan Charlip (6-4, 6-3) and No. 4 Ethan Grey (6-3, 6-1). No. 4 doubles Gabe Gordon and Coby Robbins (6- 3, 6- 3) were also winners.
