Psych eval ordered in stabbing case

A psychiatric evaluation to determine competency has been ordered for a Wat er ford Township man charged with fatally stabbing his wife and family dog.
William Kuchon, 38, will be tested at the state’s Center for Forensic Psychiatry, as ordered during a court hearing Tuesday by Judge Todd Fox of 51st District Court.
Kuchon is charged in the Oct. 2 deaths of Jessica Kuchon, 39, and their dog. According to the Waterford Police Department, an officer responding to a 9-1-1 call for a domestic disturbance involving a knife was approaching Kuchon and his wife as they were outside talking when he witnessed Kuchon strike her in the chest. Kuchon then backed away as she fell forward, and the officer determined she had been stabbed.
Jessica Kuchon was transported to an area hospital where she died.
One of the couple’s daughters was in the home at the time and reportedly told police she had awakened to hermother screaming that the family dogwas bleeding.
The daughter said she saw the dog had been stabbed and it died in her arms.
Kuchon’s brother came to the house after the daughter called him for help and he reportedly told police that he had spoken with Kuchon outside and was told that “he had figured it out, he had to kill Jessica.”
During Tuesday’s court hearing and at his arraignment earlier this month, Kuchon has smirked, grinned and shaken his head during proceedings. Also on Tuesday, his courtappointed attorney, John Holmes, said Kuchon indicated he wanted to represent himself. Fox said he wouldn’t allow that at this time.
