It’s time to amend the village of Lake Orion’s Master Plan and citizens are being asked for input.

An online survey will take them through potential changes and update for the village.

“On several issues we want residents’ input — the style of housing, the type of housing, particular different sizes, type of middle housing, some information on type of materials, what they’d like to see, architecture downtown,” said Joe Young, village manager.

The village has three specific parcels — one along the lake, one at the former high school and one at the existing DPW yard — that need concept development.

“There’s a number of questions and opportunities for them to put in comments, including there’s a map of the village that gives them an opportunity on various locations in the village of what they’d like to see or not see,” said

Young who has been village manager since 2017.

Housing is a big issue for the village.

“We’re a very desirable area for people to live. There’s a limit of what’s available at this time,” Young said. “We’ve had a number of proposals pending on more multiple housing and this is a time for everybody to chime in on what they’d like to see.”

He said it’s also a good chance to give their say on what type of businesses they’d like to add.

“For example, we don’t have a bakery or a movie theater,” Young said. “It’s wide open as to what people might like.”

The online questionnaire runs through Nov. 12. It’s just the first step in the process.

The input will be presented to the planning commission and they’ll formulate recommendations to the village council. Public hearings will be part of the equation too.

So far Young said the response has been good. The survey can be found online at lakeorion.org.
