Interim superintendent to start Oct. 26
The Brandon School District has found an interim superintendent to get through this school year.
Karl Heidrich, currently interim superintendent at Stockbridge Community Schools, has reached a verbal agreement with Brandon.
The Board of Education will vote on Monday, Oct. 19, to approve his contract which runs through June 30. He is expected to start on Oct. 26.
Heidrich, who has a Ph.D from Eastern Michigan, replaces Matthew
Outlaw who left in September to become superintendent for the Brighton Area Schools.
“The board of education makes these decisions, but the fact that he’s a current acting superintendent in the state of Michigan was very appealing because with everything going on with COVID and distance learning. He’s very familiar with that,” said Janice Meek, Brandon’s chief financial officer and acting interim superintendent. “The board was impressed with his experience overall and his demeanor and how he approached the superintendency.”
Heidrich had served as superintendent at Stockbridge
since 2012. He had worked for the district for 21 years starting as an assistant principal and athletic director at Stockbridge High School in 1999.
He retired as of July 1, but has stayed on while the search continues for a permanent replacement.
Meek said the board expects to start the search for a superintendent in February or March with the goal of having that person begin on July 1.
