MichiganWa­r Dog Memorial unveils new monument

The MichiganWa­rDog Memorial in South Lyon will unveil a monument for the Royal Australian Air Force K9 Handlers Associatio­n and the New Zealand Military Dog Group at noon Saturday,

Oct. 24.

This historic event honors two allied nations’ commitment to the friendship of our War Dog Brotherhoo­d. Speakers include Jo Christophe­rson, the Australian Consulate General from Chicago; former Michigan Senator

Mike Kowall; and Oakland County Commission­er Philip J. Weipert (RSouth Lyon).

The MichiganWa­rDog Memorial is dedicated to recognizin­g the sacrifice of our four legged warriors. The memorial park honors retired military working dogs and retired service dogs. For more informatio­n, visit mwdm.org.

• Soul Searching Art Exhibit: TheWar Memorial unveils its refurbishe­d art gallery in conjunctio­n with the Grosse Pointe Artists Associatio­n Exhibition’s “Soul Searching” from Oct. 22 toDec. 17 at 32 Lake Shore Dr., Grosse Pointe Farms. About 40 artists shared their work created during the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibit will be available for both socially distanced in-person visits and virtually on the Grosse Pointe Artists Associatio­n website. The gallery space will be open to the public from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, limited to 10 people

The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial is looking for volunteers to get involved with the Capital Campaign committee. They need all the help they can get because the COVID-19 pandemic has affected their ability to fundraise. The group of vounteers will help identify grants and potential donors.
