Kosmo says West Bloomfield will best Lake Orion

-

Everyone says it’s important to make a good first impression.

Kosmo says, it’s better tomake a good last impression.

As we reach the finale of the 2020 regular season, many teams in Oakland County need to find some confidencemoving into the playoffs.

What better way to do that than a statement win in Week 6?

A win this week could go a long way for teams to spark a winning streak throughout November.

Here are the picks forWeek 6:

Friday

• Lake Orion at West Bloomfield: A pair of 1-loss teams with big expectations for the postseason. These two had a highlightfilled meeting last year at Lake Orion and we could see more of the same on Friday at West Bloomfield. Kosmo is sticking with the Lakers this year. They have really come into their own in recent games. Kosmo Says: West Bloomfield

• Rochester at Berkley: This is the biggest game both teams have played in some time. Berkley will bemotivated after an OT loss last week, but its running into a Rochester teamthat has scored at least 40 points in every game. The Falcons’ defense also deserves credit for giving up just 52 points on the year. Kosmo Says: Rochester

• BirminghamGroves at Stoney Creek: The Cougars are playing

on another level in 2020. The confidence and drive is there. Stoney Creek has proven that it can contend with anyone in Division 1. Groves just won’t be able to match that intensity. Kosmo Says: Stoney Creek

• South Lyon at South Lyon East: Two bitter rivals playing pretty well right now, this game should be a classic. The Lions have that winning experience to rely on, but Kosmo likes that explosive passing game of the Cougars. Kosmo Says: South Lyon East

• Birmingham Brother Rice at Detroit Country Day: This should be a physical battle between two ranked teams. The Warriors seem like they have taken a big step this season and Kosmo gives the edge to them to find a way past a physical front in Country Day. Kosmo Says: Brother Rice

• Ortonville Brandon at Fenton: The Flint Metro League title is up for grabs. It is a battle of two 5- 0 teams. Fenton has the defensive edge, but Brandon has been unstoppable on offense.

It just feels like it’s the Blackhawks time to shine. Kosmo Says: Brandon

• Oak Park at Clarkston: The Wolves find ways to win and Oak Park hasn’t been able to say that. The Knights have had a disappointing 2020. I don’t

see them finding a way to change that this week. Kosmo Says: Clarkston

• Lakeland at Milford: The Eagles are quietly going about their business and winning games. Milford will put up a fight, but theMavs don’t have enough to ground Lakeland. Kosmo Says: Lakeland

• Hazel Park atMadison Heights Lamphere: The Rams have had a season to remember. They won’t slip up this week. Look for a perfect season fromLamphere. Kosmo Says: Lamphere

• Waterford Kettering at Waterford Mott: Mott had some momentum building before having to sit out last week. Will the Corsairs be able to find thatmomentum against their rival? Kettering hasn’t made it easy on anyone and the Captains would love to pick up a second straight win over their rival. Kosmo Says: Mott

• Birmingham Seaholm at North Farmington: The Maples have two losses to two of the best teams in the state. Nothing to hang their head about there. The Raiders are going to be a tough opponent, but Seaholm seems to have the edge in Kosmo’s eyes. Kosmo Says: Seaholm

• Troy Athens at Troy: The rivalry game feels like it’s a littlemore intense this year. Athens is just 1-3, but the RedHawks have lost those three by eight points or less.

Troy is 3-2 and looking to turn a corner. Athens would like nothing more than to

DIVISION 3

• Clawson goes 1-2: Clawson’s Claire Thomson and Abbey Lodato took home the top two positions in the Division 3 pre-regional at Memorial Park on Wednesday.

Both juniors, Thomson won the race with a time of 20:22.1, while Lodato placed second in 20:58.8.

University Liggett won

knock theColts down a peg. Kosmo Says: Troy Athens

• Walled LakeWesternat Walled Lake Central: The Warriors should play with a chip on their shoulder against a rival, coming off a loss. Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Western

• Auburn Hills Avondale at Bloomfield Hills: The Black Hawks have only lost to Rochester and Brother Rice, two quality teams. Bloomfield Hills could be a dangerous team come the postseason. Kosmo Says: Bloomfield Hills

• Southfield A&T at Oxford: The Warriors haven’t had an easy time during the 2020 season, but they have learned a lot from those games. Oxford just doesn’t have the same explosion as Southfield A&T. Kosmo Says: Southfield A&T

• Rochester Adams at Farmington: Adams has played a challenging schedule in 2020, but those tough losses should have theHighlanders prepared. Kosmo Says: Adams

• Ferndale at Pontiac: The Eagles are lurking as a tough playoff opponent for someone. Ferndale has some real potential if it can find the next level. Kosmo Says: Ferndale

• Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes at Auburn Hills Oakland Christian: The Lancers are coming off their first loss and will want to take out some frustrations on the Lakers. Kosmo Says: Oakland Christian

• MadisonHeights Madison at Madison Heights Bishop Foley: A local rivalry

the race with a team score of 38, while Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest was second with 52. Madison Heights Bishop Foley was third with 57, and Royal Oak Shrine was fourth with 71. All four teams will advance to next week’s regional race.

Freshman Abby Rice led the Crusaders by placing sixth (21:27.6).

Sophomore MacKenzie

game should lead to some intense football. Kosmo sees the Foley offense leading it to a win. Kosmo Says: Bishop Foley

• Salem at Novi: The Wildcats haven’t been heavily outmatched in a single game this season. They will be itching to show that they are a quality teamthis week. Kosmo Says: Novi

• Marine City at Notre Dame Prep: This should be a great game of two title contenders in their respective divisions. Notre Dame’s defense has been able to stop everyone and Kosmo thinks that will throw a high-power Marine City offense off its game. Kosmo Says: Notre Dame Prep

• Romeo at Walled Lake Northern: The Knights are another teamwith a record not indicative of how they have played. All their losses are by seven points or less. Expect another nail-biter against a battle-tested Romeo squad. Kosmo Says: Romeo

• Fraser at Royal Oak: The Ravens inconsistency on offense is going to make things tough to keep up with Fraser. Kosmo Says: Fraser

• Clio at Holly: Both squads are hoping for something positive heading into the playoffs. Kosmo likes Holly in this one. The Bronchos have been a little bit better offensively. Kosmo Says: Holly

• Cranbrook Kingswood at Redford Union: It’s been a tough time for Cranbrook. The Cranes just haven’t been able to get on track.

Lemke was 11th (22:23.0), freshman Kendall Zaliwski was 12th (22:36.6), senior Olivia Macavage was 15th (23:14.1) and sophomore Emma Burrell was 18th (23:43.5).

Bishop Foley was led by junior Kathryn Podolan, who placed fourth (21:04.2). Freshman Carmellina Biafora was 10th (22:07.4), sophomore Emily Mandziuk was 16th (23:28.2), senior

Redford is playing with a lot of confidence. Kosmo Says: Redford

• Garden City at Clawson: The Trojans couldn’t get off the starting block last week. They can’t afford to do that again this week. Kosmo Says: Garden City

• Otisville LakeVille Memorial at Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest: It’s a pair of winless teams, so something has to give. Kosmo likes the Crusaders in a thriller. Kosmo Says: Lutheran Northwest

Saturday

• Detroit Loyola at Detroit Catholic Central: The Shamrocks get to host the Prep Bowl for the CHSL title.

fter grinding out wins against the best in the CHSL, Loyola seems heavily outmatched against the much bigger DCC.

Kosmo Says: Catholic Central

• Clarkston Everest Collegiate vs. Riverview Gabriel Richard:

At DCC, these two open up the Prep Bowl playing for a league title.

Everest has been the standard in the CHSL for years and Kosmo likes the Mountaineers to keep on winning. Kosmo Says: Everest Collegiate

• Detroit Communication Media Arts at Royal Oak Shrine: Shrine is stepping up to face a bigger program, but the Knights are going towant to get the bad taste out of theirmouths after losing to Everest.

Kosmo Says: Shrine

Arianna Kerkmaz was 17th (23:40.0) and freshman Julia Serra was 20th (23:50.8).

Shrine was led by junior Claire Plaskey, who placed seventh (21:28.4). Junior Clara Losey was 13th (22:43.2), junior Lindsay Grohs was 14th (22:57.7), senior KatherineMutschler was 21st (23:58.6) and sophomore Maura Gum was 26th (25:48.7).
