MedSupply receives grant to produce face shields for essential workers
MedSupply, a Troy-based supplier of PPE and durable medical equipment, announced it has received a grant from Automation Alley technology business center in Troy.
MedSupply received a Project DIAMOnD (Digital, Independent, Agile, Manufacturing on Demand) grant to help manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Project DIAMOnD grants are funded through a $10 million grant Automation Alley received from Oakland County and a $2 million grant from Macomb County, according to a press release.
The grant provided a 3D printer to MedSupply to produce face shields for Automation Alley to be distributed to essential workers in Oakland and Macomb County.
“MedSupply is honored to receive this grant and produce PPE to protect essential workers in Oakland and Macomb Counties,” Mike Smith, Clinical Director, MedSupply, said in the press release. “With this 3D printer, we will be able to produce face shields quickly when needed. With this technology we also plan to produce other vital health care industry items, such as newer, lightweight innovative prosthetics.”
Project DIAMOnD was created to help move companies into the digital manufacturing age of Industry 4.0. All grant recipients are required to remain on the network to produce PPEs for three years. Businesses may use the printers to produce other items to help grow their business. To qualify, companies must be a small- or medium-sized manufacturer in Oakland County.
