Michigan averaged 980 new coronavirus cases and two deaths per day for the two-day period over the weekend.

For Sunday and Monday, the state reported a total of 1,960 new cases and four deaths.

The number of deaths, however, is a net number. There were two deaths in Macomb County, two in Saginaw County, and one each in Calhoun and Clinton counties.

Adjustments in state records removed one death each from Newaygo and Kalamazoo counties.

In all, Michigan has experienced 598,014 confirmed cases and 15,670 deaths from the virus since the pandemic began a year ago.

Two-day case numbers announced Monday were 178 cases and two deaths in Macomb County, 332 cases in Wayne County, 222 cases in Oakland County, and 89 cases in Detroit.

In other parts of the state, there were 71 cases in Genesee County, 111 cases in Kent County, 48 cases in Livingston County, 61 cases in Ottawa County, and 28 cases and two deaths in Saginaw County.

In mid Michigan, there were no cases in Clare County, two cases in Gratiot County, and seven cases in Isabella County.

Thirteen of Michigan’s 83 counties reported no cases or deaths.

Vaccinations against the deadly virus proceed across the state. Health workers have administered 2,505,493 doses of the vaccine, including 334,557 in Oakland County, 266,328 in Wayne County, 196,889 in Macomb County, and 84,055 in Detroit.

The state’s goal is immunized 70 percent of the roughly more than 8 million residents age 16 and older.
