Berkley powers past Rochester

A recap of high school sporting events reported to The Oakland Press on Friday night:

Girls basketball BERKLEY 49, ROCHESTER 40

The Berkley girls basketball team knocked down 14 free throws in the fourth quarter, leading it to a 4940 win over Rochester.

Ashley Loon scored 20 points to lead the Bears in the victory, while Sammi Withrow had 15.

Megan Lorenzo led Rochester with 20 points, while Fotini Marselis had nine.

STONEY CREEK 49, TROY 43

Stoney Creek improved to 11-1 on the season and created a tie atop the OAA White on Friday with a 4943 win over Troy.

Milana Skoric led the Cougars with 14 points, while Sydney Laprairie had 12.

CLARKSTON 70, SOUTHFIELD A&T 57

The Clarkston girls basketball team picked up another win in the OAA Red on Friday, beating Southfield A&T 70-57.

Maddy Skorupski had 24 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Wolves, while Olivia Toderan had 19 points with five assists and five rebounds. Kaelyn Kaul added 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

ROYAL OAK 39, NORTH FARMINGTON 19

The Royal Oak girls basketball team improved to 7-5 on the season Friday night with a 39-19 win over North Farmington.

Sarah Ammon led the Ravens with 15 points and five rebounds, while Kristin Leman scored seven.

Penelope Creary had six points and five steals for the Raiders, while Heaven Rogers pulled down 12 rebounds.

LAKE ORION 56, AVONDALE 33

Lake Orion moved to 7-2 in the OAA Blue and 9-6 overall with a 56-33 win over Auburn Hills Avondale on Friday.

Katie VanHeck had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Dragons, while Chloe Wiegers had 11 points.

MERCY 57, SHRINE 23 The Farmington Hills Mercy basketball team improved to 10-3 on the season Friday night with a win over Shrine.

Maddie Kenney and Ellie Tisko each had 10 points to lead the Marlins.

Shrine (8-5) was led by

Bridget Murray, who scored nine points.

LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 48, OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 30

Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest moved to 8-0 on the season Friday night with a win over Oakland Christian.

Emily Grulke had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Crusaders, while Sabrina Gottschalk had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jena Maniaci added 10 points and 10 rebounds as well.

Boys basketball TROY ATHENS 68, ROYAL OAK 46

The Troy Athens boys basketball team rolled to a 68-46 win over Royal Oak on Friday.

Michael Justice had 18 points to lead the Red Hawks in the win, while Jordan Sebagh had 14.

SOUTH LYON 76, KETTERING 51

The South Lyon boys basketball team grabbed a 7651 win over Waterford Kettering on Friday.

Quinn Fracassi had 17 points to lead South Lyon (9-3), while Lucas Doty scored 13.

Bennie Crenshaw and Zarek Zelinski each scored 11 points to lead the Captains (7-7).

WL NORTHERN 55, WL WESTERN 24

Walled Lake Northern bested Walled Lake Western on Friday in Lakes Valley Conference play.

Johnny Archer had 14 points to lead the Knights (7-3, 5-2 LVC) while Carter Polan scored 13.

Eric Dean led Western (212, 0-7) with seven points.

MADISON 54, COUNTRY DAY 44

The Madison Heights Madison boys basketball team held off Detroit Country Day on Friday, 54-44.

Quentin Jones led the Eagles with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Desmond Denham scored 16, and Brandon Tally had 10 points with eight rebounds.

HENRY FORD 80, WEST BLOOMFIELD 77

West Bloomfield dropped a non-conference contest against Detroit Henry Ford on Friday, 80-77.

Ryan Hurst had 22 points to lead the Lakers while Mitchel Seay had 20.
