2-day total: 3,143 new cases, nine new deaths

Michigan added 3,143 new coronaviru­s cases and nine deaths Monday to the total since the pandemic began more than a year ago.

The two-day numbers bring the totals in Michigan to 610,580 cases and 15,783 deaths.

Of the nine new deaths, two were in Grand Traverse County, two in Wayne County, and one each in Kent, Jackson, Livingston, and Calhoun counties, and one in Detroit.

New cases over the two days were highest in the more populated counties.

There were 465 cases and two deaths in Wayne County, 383 cases in Macomb County, 370 cases in Oakland County, and 163 cases and one death in Detroit.

There were spikes in other areas of the state, notably 92 cases and one death in Livingston County, 158 cases and one death in Kent County, 41 cases and one death in Jackson County, 149 cases in Ingham County, 138 cases in Genesee County, 112 cases in St. Clair County, 66 cases in Washtenaw County, 64 cases in Ottawa County, 73 cases in Kalamazoo County, and 24 cases and two deaths in Grand Traverse County.

In all, 15 of Michigan’s 83 counties reported no new cases or deaths from the virus.

So far, health provid

ers around the state have administer­ed 3,084,284 doses of the vaccine and completely vaccinated 1,971,640 people against the virus.

That amounts to 24.4% of the 8,096,917 people in the state estimated to be age 16 or older. The state’s goal is to reach 70% of that population.

People completely vaccinated in southeast Michigan as of Monday were 246,902 or 23.58% of the target population in Oakland County, 147,822 people or 20.69% in Macomb County, 205,743 people or 23.82% in Wayne County, and 69,656 people or 13.4% in Detroit.

The state health department estimates 556,697 people have recovered from the virus.
