Gatt will seek re-election as mayor
Longtime Novi Mayor Bob Gatt has made his decision on whether or not to seek a sixth, two-year term.
Gatt, who works full-time as manager of the Oakland County Animal Control Division, announced this week that he will seek a sixth term. He filed his reelection paperwork March 3.
“I truly dislike partisan politics,” he said. “Political strife, conflict and extremism remains a big part of our daily lives, but only at the National level in Washington D.C.
That’s not what I’m about. And, most importantly, that’s not what our great City of Novi is all about. I remain laser-focused on making decisions that will make life easier for Novi residents — not for any specific political party.”
He was first elected mayor in 2011 after serving eight years on city council. This year is Gatt’s 18th year serving on the council, his 10th as mayor.
“I feel engaged, energetic, excited, optimistic and full of promise as I enter this year’s general election on November 2,” he said. “I can’t wait to lead this great city and to serve Novi citizens for two more years.”
Over the past four elections, Gatt has won re-election as mayor by collecting an average of 70.75 percent of the vote.
Before joining Oakland County in 2002 as chief of field operations for the county’s community corrections program, Gatt served 27 years as a police officer, sergeant and shift commander at the Novi Police Department.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021.
There will be elections in seven communities this November including Novi, Oak Park, Pontiac, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Southfield, and Wixom for city council, mayor, and library board seats.
