School district expected to hire superintendent by July
The Birmingham Public Schools expects to hire a new superintendent by July 6, according to a post on the district’s website.
The district hired a search firm, Michigan Leadership Institute, to assist the Board of Education in hiring a replacement for Superintendent Mark Dziatczak.
He resigned last month due to medical reasons. He had been on leave for four months. The district hasn’t released details of his condition.
George Heitsch, a retired superintendent from the Farmington Public Schools, is serving as interim superintendent.
Here is the timeline to hire a new leader:
March 19 -April 9
• Collect stakeholder feedback to develop candidate profile and district/ community profile. An online survey is available until Friday, March 26, at https:// birminghampublic.co1. qualtrics.com/jfe/form/ SV_7NDUC7izpRFz5CC.
• Create and finalize position announcement.
April 9-May 14
Post position, place ads, accept applications until May 14.
May 18, 6-9 p.m.
Present applicants to board. Board will select which ones to interview.
May 24-26, 6-9:15 p.m. each evening
Board conducts first round of interviews.
May 27, 6-7 p.m.
Board selects finalists. June 1-2, 7-8 p.m.
• Finalist interviews conducted.
• Each finalist meets with stakeholder groups prior to interview with board.
Week of June 7, dates and times to be determined
• Site visits (board subcommittee meetings with stakeholders at work site of each finalist).
• Finalist tours of District (led by board subcommittee).
June 15, 7 p.m.
Board selects superintendent.
Week of June 21
Board action to hire new superintendent (tentative).
July 6
First official work day for new superintendent.
