Mike Posner is really headed to the top of the world this spring.

The Grammy Awardnominated songwriter — a Southfield-raised Birmingham Groves High School graduate — has been climbing mountains since completing a walk across America during April of 2019. Now Posner — who released a single and video called “Top of the World,” featuring Big Sean, in 2013 — has announced plans to climb Mount Everest this spring. The endeavor will raise money for the Detroit Justice Center (DJC) via

GoFundMe (gofundme. com/f/everest).

“While my walk across America was about me finding myself, I want my climb to be about others,” Posner said in a statement, noting the philanthropy was inspired by his father Jon Posner, a prominent criminal defense attorney in Detroit. “I’ve decided to dedicate my climb to the Detroit Justice Center because they’re doing criminal justice reform work in my city that would make my dad beam with joy.”

To prepare for Everest, Posner has spent much of the past year doing highaltitude training in Colorado. The 29,000-foot-plus climb is expected to start during April and continue into May.

Posner has released six albums since 2009, including last year’s “Operation: Wake Up.” Earlier this year he released a new single, “Momma Always Told Me,” featuring Stanaj and Yung Bae, while his 2010 single “Please Don’t Go” is being used as a theme song for the TikTok #PleaseDonTog challenge. Posner has also written hits for Maroon 5, Justin Bieber and Labrinth, among others, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for his 2015 single “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.”
