County to host apprenticeship showcase April 19
Oakland County is giving those interested in finding a new career a prime opportunity to meet with industry professionals.
The virtual Oakland County Apprenticeship Showcase is being held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 19, and will feature employers from a number of industries including building trades, manufacturing, health care, pharmacy, information technology, and culinary.
Jarrad Grady, executive director of student services at Oakland Schools, said apprenticeships continue to be an important means of providing relevant and rigorous preparation for students interested in careers in multiple industries.
“We support Oakland County’s employers in this initiative to expand opportunities to prepare talent in our county,” he said.
Attendees will participate for free, but must register in advance at https:// app.brazenconnect.com/a/ Michigan/e/6xoAD.
A Registered Apprenticeship is a primary postsecondary pathway promoted by Oakland Schools through its career readiness team. Upon completion of a Registered Apprenticeship, a person typically earns one or more professional certifications or certificates.
Recently, Oakland County Michigan Works! received a $625,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity to help support the development of 250 apprentices. The money will help cover costs of onthe-job learning and related technical instruction to earn certificates and certifications for in-demand careers.
The Apprenticeship Showcase is being hosted by Oakland County Michigan Works! and Oakland Schools, in partnership with Oakland Community College, Oakland County Economic Development and the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity.
