Tuesday Musicale announces annual scholarship winners
The nonprofit Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac announced the 2021 Dora Dawson music award winners.
To qualify for these scholarships, students must be studying music in college or be a high school senior intending to major or minor in music. This year, due to COVID-19, the auditions were held via Zoom, and adjudicators Susan Joul and Bill Milicevic were able to converse with the students to ask theory questions and provide a sight-reading opportunity.
The first place winner is soprano Angela Bonello, an Oakland University student and resident of Royal Oak. Bonello has studied voice for seven years and is currently working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in voice performance and music education. She is a paid section leader at All Saints Episcopal
Church in Pontiac and a cantor at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak.
The second place winner is percussionist Kyle Paoletti, an Oakland University student from Rochester Hills. Paoletti has studied percussion for 15 years and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in music education and percussion performance. He is a member of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra, a published percussion composer,
and an instructor for the Motor City Academy Brass Band in Southfield and the Red Piano Music Studio in Rochester.
